Key Information
- Power rake your yard either in early spring or late fall to reduce injury to your lawn
- De-thatching is the process of removing excess organic material from your lawn
Thank you for letting us Power-rake your Lawn
Left on its own the organic material will continue to accumulate and just like a thatched roof will prevent water from penetrating the surface of the lawn. A lawn with excessive thatch could be the Trojan Horse that reduces resiliency, leads to weakness and then disease.
Power-raking is different from pulling a rake over your lawn in several ways. A plastic rake only removes surface debris. A thatching rake does a better job but is physically demanding and can cause you injury if your body is not in physical condition.
A Power-rake machine is most efficient by doing the job of 20 thatching rakes in half the time. The machine is 21 inches in width, holds three sets of 60 thick metal knives, and each knife spins 1800 times per minute. The machine loosens the thatch layer and lifts living and dead organic material from your lawn.
Injury occurs more frequently on thin and uneven lawns and lawns which are lucky enough to provide shelter to worms. Expansion and contraction of saturated soil, especially over winter, can create low spots in a lawn. And when the wheel, from the power-rake, sits in a low spot this creates a sever attack angle, which will scalp a yard. If your yard has high or low spots it will be susceptible to injury.
And finally, your lawn is robust, especially after waking from winter. The ground water is charged and ready to provide for your garden. The lawn will be sending out underground horizontal stems called Rhizomes, which will sprout new life.
HOW TO RECOVER FROM INJURY
If your lawn becomes injured from the Power-rake, then water as soon as you can. Water is life and will encourage recovery.
You then may top dress the affected areas with potting soil, loam or compost. By top dressing you will both release nutrients into the soil and decrease water loss of through transpiration.
